[10 Nov 2009|12:53pm]

Wow, it's been a while since the last post! Where's everyone?
I've been to the BHP gig in October (Rhythm Room, Tempe, AZ) the band sounds better with the solid rhythm section, which, by the looks of it, has been borrowed from Mr.Tube and the Flying Objects, Pall's "other" band. This is a full on tour, with a European leg in December, pretty insane IMO. I wish them the best of luck.

I'm trying to get used to Six, but I mostly only like the tail end of it, especially Back to the Underground and Last Chance. IDK maybe it's because they're more like their earlier songs. Overall I think Pall sounds tired. Lyrically, vocally, musically and in general. I suppose it could be the age (he's turning 39 in just a few days) and the ordeals with the record labels. At least they have one right now.

So... what do you guys think? About the gigs, album, the future, etc?

Black Heart Procession show at the Bowery Ballroom - 07.31.06 [01 Aug 2006|06:49pm]

Last nite I went to see Castanets, Devics and Black Heart Procession. The show was at The Bowery Ballroom here in NYC.

I just thought that you guys might be interested in seeing some of the photos I took and some video clips from the show.

My mini review:

Castanets were mediocre live, which is okay. I still really enjoy the one cd that I own by them, "Cathedral. Devics, on the other hand, were AMAZING. So good. I love their latest cd (which is the only one I have) and now I must say I'm a dedicated fan after seeing them live. I will definitely be purchasing their older stuff as soon as money allows.

Black Heart, as always, was amazing, intriguing and just plain perfection. Last time I saw them live, I gotta say, I enjoyed them a bit more, but they were still absolutely wonderful this time. The only reason I liked them better last time was because they played a lot more old stuff.

Anyhow behind the cut are some photos from the show and some video clips ... the audio isn't great, but you can get the idea.

query [09 Apr 2006|10:10am]

i was looking at my copy of the 2 lp, and i noticed on one side, there was a message scratched.

"sometimes while playing the saw, your brain can twist and curl into loose knots"

i was just wondering if other people had that too.

also; what did everyone think of the spell?

so please forgive me for the spell i am under. [11 Mar 2006|02:02pm]

So, I'm trying to get my friends into Black Heart (mainly so they stop being sick of me talking about the new CD). My question is what would you say the top five songs would be to introduce someone to them?

i do not know if it would be kosher, but i assume everyone who is in this community is going to run out and buy the spell (i am going to get it on vinyl if i can, but that is just me)

but i have an advance of the spell, the full album.

i could post it on whatever hosting service and people could download and listen to it if they wanted.

but obviously only if they would go out and buy it later! otherwise you are not a cool kid.

if it is not cool then i will keep it to myself! i do not want to step on any toes.

Black Heart Procession Ready Fifth Album [20 Feb 2006|10:29pm]

Zach Vowell reports:
It's been over three years since the Black Heart Procession forsook the nominal trend of their first three album titles (One, Two and Three) and surfaced with the mysterious Amore del Tropico. On May 11, they'll return to simplicity with The Spell, due out on Touch and Go.

Packed with tales of, well, spellbound characters (and of course more reasons to commemorate our black hearts), the album features the Album Leaf's Jimmy LaValle and Matt Resovich helping out on piano, bass, reverb tank (whatever the hell that is), organ, violin, Wurlitzer, synth, and lapsteel. And don't worry: the BHP haven't forgot their musical saw.

Saw this, Sufjan:

01 Tangled
02 The Spell
03 Not Just Words
04 The Letter
05 The Replacement
06 Return to Burn
07 GPS
08 The Waiter #5
09 Places
10 The Fix
11 To Bring You Back

Those who prefer their album previews in clubs rather than from p2p's can catch the Black Heart Procession on a brief tour in March. They'll be playing songs from The Spell on the trek, which will stretch allllll the way from San Diego to South by Southwest.

03-12 San Diego, CA - Casbah
03-13 Phoenix, AZ - Rhythm Room
03-14 Albuquerque, NM - Launchpad
03-16 Austin, TX - Emo's (SXSW)
03-17 Austin, TX - Austin Music Hall (SXSW)

update [16 Jan 2006|02:37am]

According to Pall, the new Black Heart Procession album is titled "The Spell" and it will be out on May 9th. This is awesome news. Here's the full post that Pall apparently made on the band's myspace page:

wut up - its pall - we just finished our new record - with 11 songs its called The Spell - we recorded it at our studio SDRL -- and will be out may 9th - im at Touch and Go in Chicago for a week right now laying out the art work - - its all coming together -- at night here we've been going out and im showing the T and G crew here how to drink a lot and not puke -- thats gonna take a while but im dedicated to this idea - its messy but with much trial and error - they may at least make it to the privacy of home - talk soon -- pall

Haha, nice excessive use of dashes there, Pall. Anyway, this is really good news.

[19 Dec 2005|01:03am]

Just thought I would update this comm since it's been awhile.

According to Toby, the new Black Heart Procession album (so far untitled) should be out in the spring of 2006. Three Mile Pilot are also releasing a new album soon, but Toby is no longer playing with them (!).

Hopefully this new album will result in a tour, which is greatly anticipated by people such as myself.

Have a good holiday season everyone!

[07 Aug 2005|08:59pm]

Has anyone seen the new movie, Happy Endings? I saw it the other night and was surprised to see that Black Heart Procession is on the soundtrack. Theres also some other pretty good music on there. You can check it out here. Maggie Gyllenhaal is in the movie and also does some songs on the soundrack, including a Billy Joel cover. Has anyone else heard the soundtrack, what do you think?

Help with lyrics. [11 Mar 2005|12:50pm]

Hi. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the lyrics to the song "A Truth Quietly Told" are. I tried asking and looking for it elsewhere but didn't have much luck. Help, please?
